The Erato app

The app does not collect any personal data. It works entirely offline. There is no user account, no advertising, no tracking and no analytics.

Data on your device

Which poems you keep or skip, your lists, your reading history and your settings (such as text size or appearance) are stored only on your device. They are never sent to us or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes this data. It may be included in your device backup (iCloud or computer), which is governed by Apple's terms.

The widget, the poem-of-the-day notification and reading aloud also work entirely on the device. Notifications are scheduled locally, and poems are read with your iPhone's own voices.

Links to other sites

Every poem links to its source (for example Wikisource or Project Gutenberg), and poets link to Wikipedia. Tapping such a link opens the page in your browser. The respective site is responsible for any data it processes.

Apple

The app is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple may process data when you download the app and, if you have agreed to it, through crash reports and usage statistics. Apple is responsible for this; see apple.com/legal/privacy. We only receive such statistics from Apple in anonymized form.

This website

This website sets no cookies, uses no tracking and loads nothing from other servers, not even fonts.

Hosting and server logs

The website runs on a server of Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, under a data processing agreement. When a page is requested, the server automatically records the IP address, date and time, the page requested, the amount of data sent, the referrer and the browser identification. This is needed to deliver the website securely and reliably and to fend off attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The log files are deleted after 14 days.

Email

If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and delete them once the matter is settled.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Write to the email address above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg.

Changes

If the app ever changes in a way that collects data, we will update this policy beforehand.
